John T. Maher is Counsel to Gallo Vitucci & Klar. Mr. Maher has practiced maritime law for over 20 years since beginning his career at Nourse & Bowles. He has worked on a variety of maritime cases, including, vessel damage and cargo (COGSA) claims, marine insurance, charter party disputes and demurrage claims, bodily injury (DOHSA, LHWCA and Jones Act claims), maritime arbitration matters before the SMA and abroad, maritime pollution claims including point source pollution, maritime lien cases involving the arrests of vessels and assets, ship mortgage bankruptcy and restructuring issues, and limitation of liability claims (Rule E).

Mr. Maher is the primary author of the practice handbook, Maritime Litigation (Butterworth/Reed Elsevier) which sets forth a step by step outline for litigating maritime cases and arbitration matters. Mr. Maher has written several articles for Lloyd’s Maritime Law Reporter and has worked extensively on transnational maritime disputes involving multi-forum litigation and arbitration matters.

Mr. Maher is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied at the Wharton School, and of New York Law School. He also studied at Harvard and Columbia Universities. Mr. Maher was admitted to the New York and Connecticut bars in 1989 and is admitted in federal courts nationwide (including: SDNY, EDNY, D CT, ED TX, and D AZ).
